“We are not a slave…but a son….”

“I’ll do your bidding,” I said to God one day.
I said it with an ‘Oh, well,’ hands in the air mentality’.
“I don’t want your bidding.” He said.
“I want to have fellowship with you.”
“What?” I had to think about that one…
God doesn’t want us as His servants, He wants us in fellowship as His sons and daughters. So many times I’ve heard the word “sonship” thrown around as church vocabulary, but what does this really mean?
I think the Lord was about to begin showing me.
While going through the Wilderness season of my life, I began to stand on His promises; memorizing some Scripture to stand on.
But at one point I said, “I will parrot back to you Your promises.”
I said this with a, ‘thumbs under my armpits good for me,’ mentality. I thought that was a pretty good prayer since I had learned to stand on His promises. But the attitude was not completely what He wanted.
God said, “I don’t want you to parrot back to Me my promises. I want you to PARTNER with Me in the promise.”
Partner I thought, “What does that look like?”
He replied, “Just like I gave Abraham’s wife Sarah the strength to conceive the promise of a son, so I want you to do the same.” It took Abraham and Sarah to partner together to conceive the seed of God’s promise to them.
I began looking into the Scripture in Hebrews 11:11. It says, “By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised.” Some versions say, “She received strength (or power) to conceive the seed and that beyond a seasonable age.”
Some of you may feel like your time has gone by and that you are beyond a seasonable age. God is giving you the ability to receive the seed.
The word ability in the Greek means the “inherent power residing in a person by virtue of its nature.”
God has given us the power and it is residing in us to receive his seed of promise. Many times the Scripture talks about God being the groom and we are His bride.
God has the seed of promise and it is deposited IN US to produce that which He wants to accomplish THROUGH US. It is through partnering and fellowship that the seed is conceived and we move in everything that He has for us to accomplish.
Today you have the capacity to receive the seed of His promises. It is a day to day PARTNERSHIP with God to accomplish all He has for you, even if you feel you are well past your season.
“Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.”

One fateful decision landed me smack in the middle of my own Wilderness…
Though I was obeying God’s voice, I spent the next several years “walking on water,” even though it felt more like I was treading water. A Journey Out of the Wilderness is for people going through a rough time—a Wilderness experience—where you feel as though you are “down for the count” and ready to give up. Wilderness Wanderers feel as though they are doing laps around the mountain, passing the same tree over and over again wondering, “Will this never end?” However, being in the Wilderness will be one of the most transformational times of your life.
